School Info

The Missouri School of Dentistry & Oral Health will educate dental students to provide comprehensive patient care in an environment of scholarly engagement and inquiry. Graduates will become community and educational leaders, serve those in need, and promote life-long learning.

The program will produce graduates with a strong foundation of critical inquiry, evidence-based practice, research, and cultural proficiency, an orientation to prevention and interprofessional and interdisciplinary healthcare experiences. We will promote the delivery of optimal patient care and foster the transfer of newly acquired knowledge, skills and technology to the profession and to the community. The curriculum will intertwine the humanist qualities of compassion, altruism and community-focus with the traditional educational components of oral health competency, ethics, integrity, leadership, service, professionalism and excellence.

Curriculum

MOSDOH students spend the first two years studying the basic sciences and clinical introductions in a classroom setting. Third and fourth year clinical education will be based in St. Louis, which will provide an adequate population base of patients in need of dental services. At least half of the fourth year clinical experiences will be distributed in Community Health Centers (CHCs) and other safety net clinics in Missouri and the Midwest Region, including our partner in Kirksville - the Northeast Missouri Health Council.

Facilities

The dental simulation clinic is located on the first floor of the IPE building and serves as an innovative learning environment where MOSDOH students learn the dental sciences with the best technology available before advancing to the MOSDOH patient-care setting in St. Louis.

The 7,000+ square foot simulation clinic has 48 student workstations, each equipped with a KaVo Mannekin Simulator, LED dental light, dental instruments, and a flat screen display monitor. An instructor's station at the front of the clinic provides space for faculty members to demonstrate techniques which can be broadcast directly to each individual student station.

In addition to student and faculty work stations, the simulation clinic houses four dental operatories with digital x-ray units, a sterilization center, a dispensary and a wet lab consisting of eight sinks and stainless steel work space.

What do you like most?

"Taking one class at a time allows you to really focus on a subject instead of having to juggle 5-10 at once. Focus on public health was major positive for me. Also small class size was great as we were a very tight knit group, no competition amongst us." | Report Response

About the LizzyM Score

LizzyM, SDN Moderator and medical school admissions committee member, is the inventor of the LizzyM Score. The score allows you to see if you are a competitive applicant at a given school. If your LizzyM Score is far below or above the average, you may not be a good fit. If your score is far below, your application may be screened out due to numerical cutoffs. If it is far above, the school may assume they are your “safety” school and that you won’t attend if they offer an acceptance. This score should be used only as a guide to help you select schools and is not a guarantee of acceptance at any school. If you use this as your sole criteria to select medical schools to apply to, you don’t deserve to get in anyway.
