What do you like most about this school?

"The people. Don't underestimate this when choosing a school. Med school is hard and having classmates & faculty that have you back is HUGE. Also, the ultrasound curriculum is a huge bonus. Faculty very accessible and responsive to student feedback. Students consistently outperform national averages on the boards across every subject category. Graduates match well. Tons of opportunities for research, global health involvement, leadership, electives, additional degrees (MPH, MBA, etc)." | Report Response

"prepared me well for Step 1, residents/attendings enjoy teaching students that work hard" | Report Response

"The environment. There are plenty of opportunities to make medical school exactly what you want (which is probably true at many schools). If you want to study all the time and honor everything you can. If you want to have a personal life and pass and still do ok in the match, you can. If you want to be involved in the community, a specific cause or just stay in excellent shape - you can do that too." | Report Response

What do you like least about this school?

"Distance between the campus (MS1/MS2) and med center (MS3/MS4). Not a huge deal, as long as you're not trying to drive from Irvine to Orange at 5pm." | Report Response

"distance between med school and hospital" | Report Response

"Med school is hard. Period. Some of the first and second year professors STINK, because they are PhDs that don't get the medicine and they don't care that much. Its unfortunate, but also probably true at every school. Depending on your study style this may be very frustrating for you. But we also have some incredible award winning teachers (anatomy, physiology, pathology). Again, no school has an awesome teacher for everything. Overall the curriculum and teaching is above average from speaking to other students at other schools and I wish I had put more faith in the curriculum for teaching me what I needed to know." | Report Response

This is a great system - those who want to do something competitive can work their butts off and get their honors, and the rest of us enjoy the generally non-competitive atmosphere" | Report Response

"Internal Medicine (8 weeks), Surgery (8 weeks), OB/Gyn (6 weeks), Psychiatry (6 weeks), Pediatrics (6 weeks), Family Medicine (4 weeks), Ambulatory Medicine (4 weeks), Neurology (4 weeks), Vacation (6 weeks)" | Report Response

"3rd year - everyone takes the same 6 things. Schedules are just given out in the middle of third year. While people can switch for weddings, etc we do not choose the order of the schedule. Required rotations include: OB/gyn-8wks, Internal medicine-8wks, Family medicine/ambulatory medicine-8wks, Psychiatry-6wks, Pediatrics-8wks, Surgery-8wks. There is changing though, I believe neuro and radiology are going to be included as well. As of now there is 6 wks of vacation time to enjoy yourself or take electives and shorten your 4th year. 4th year - Only required rotations are a Sub I (family, med, surg, peds), ICU (surg, med, peds), substance abuse, and emergency medicine. Then you do 20 or so weeks of electives (they are in the process of changing it). Signing up is complicated with a lottery but I've never heard anyone say they couldn't get what they needed/wanted." | Report Response
