Being that the school is continuing with the curriculum overhaul they started several years ago (which is overall going very well) I would thought that more of these education-type opportunities would be available. "I was told by a residency director that they'd rather take students from schools like UW than Ivy League schools because we're SO much better trained on physical exam, plus clinical flexibility and hard work. An Ivy league friend agreed- I've done 10x more procedures already as a 4th year student, he had never even sutured by himself by his intern year. That may be anecdotal, but stuff like that REALLY matters by the end of med school and looking at residencies. Overall, you get a superb training you can really be proud of. Plus, the Badgers rock! :)" | Report Response

"Only the lectures that have patients come in to talk to us are required, all other lectures are optional since they are recorded and pod-casted for us to watch later. Small group discussions are all mandatory but we don't have them every day." | Report Response

"Pretty much none. The syllabi always make suggestions for books that are really good should students want a reference for a subject they're having trouble in but nothing is required. You are required to buy the course packets from the bookstore within the medical school. Netter's for the spring anatomy course is really useful but I didn't use any of the other recommended books." | Report Response

"No, at least not in the first two years. We do talk in class about the shortage of primary care providers so in that sense students are aware that WI could really use PCPs but we aren't herded towards any particular speciality and are more encouraged to pick whatever we love the most. We have a career counselor to set us up with information on any specialty or opportunity we might be interested in. We also have interest groups for every conceivable specialty so we can learn more about each one." | Report Response

"Many types including efficiencies, 1 BR, 2 BR, etc. Can be an apartment or floor of a house. Parking is expensive on campus but is free at clinical sites. Places very close to the med school are readily available and are usually pretty nice but can be a bit expensive if you don't want any roommates." | Report Response

"UW Hospital and Clinics is connected to the medical and while crazy difficult to navigate through without getting lost is and excellent hospital. We are also affiliated with many hospital throughout the entire state as students are able ad encouraged to do rotations throughout the state." | Report Response

"It's very dependent on where you are doing your rotation. Populations in Madison and Milwaukeed are more ethnically diverse than in rural areas but both urban and rural areas pose their own unique set of clinical challenges." | Report Response

"Students do a variety of activities including the Dean's Cup rivalry with the law school. Biking is popular since Madison has extensive and very nice bike paths. There is a Yoga group that meets every week. There are plenty of nice restaurants in the area with really good food. Going out to bars as groups is probably the most popular weekend activity." | Report Response
