School Overview

School Info

his is an exciting time in the history of medicine and an exciting time to be at Yale, where you will find a commitment to excellence that defines everything we do and establishes this School as a national and international leader in research, education, and patient care. Through our admissions process, we are seeking to enroll a talented and diverse class of students from every segment of modern society men and women who have the maturity, intelligence, energy, and compassion to grow into the kind of physician-leaders we strive to educate.

Curriculum

The educational program is composed pre-clinical and clinical segments, each two-years in duration, and provides opportunities for students to master the knowledge, skills, and attitudes necessary to become accomplished and creative physicians with outstanding clinical skills (figure 1). Throughout the four years is an emphasis on three interrelated themes (figure 2): a rigorous core scientific and clinical curriculum (the science), a comprehensive clinical skill-building program (the art) and opportunities to engage in complex clinical reasoning (medical-decision-making).

Facilities

Located southwest of the New Haven Green and Yale`s Old Campus, Yale-New Haven Medical Center includes the School of Medicine, School of Nursing, Yale-New Haven Hospital (YNHH), Connecticut Mental Health Center and the John B. Pierce Laboratory.

About the LizzyM Score

LizzyM, SDN Moderator and medical school admissions committee member, is the inventor of the LizzyM Score. The score allows you to see if you are a competitive applicant at a given school. If your LizzyM Score is far below or above the average, you may not be a good fit. If your score is far below, your application may be screened out due to numerical cutoffs. If it is far above, the school may assume they are your “safety” school and that you won’t attend if they offer an acceptance. This score should be used only as a guide to help you select schools and is not a guarantee of acceptance at any school. If you use this as your sole criteria to select medical schools to apply to, you don’t deserve to get in anyway.
