"I specialize in minimally invasive surgery. I've worked at Downstate for two years and have interviewed students for a year...What's your story? It was the very first question, and it just seemed a bit abrupt. " Report Response | I was asked this question too

What impressed you positively?

"The emphasis on getting students to actively participate in clinical, patient work early on, as well as the systems-based curriculum. Exams are given after each subject block as opposed to a midterm and a final encompassing many subjects and organ systems. " Report Response

What impressed you negatively?

"The neighborhood and the facilities are a bit shabby and run down. " Report Response

What did you wish you had known ahead of time?

"That the interviewer would, depending on his/her specialty, not be very knowledgeable about certain aspects of the medical school curriculum including research opportunities. " Report Response

What are your general comments?

"I have mixed feelings about the interview, but overall it went well. My interviewer was laid back but serious. It was hard to read him, though; I couldn't tell whether he kinda liked me, didn't like me or didn't care. When I talked about my summer biochemistry research experience, he seemed kinda bored, but I could be reading into that too much. " Report Response
